What is digital marketing? The complete reference guide!!
The best marketing doesn’t feel like marketing. - Tom Fishburne.
There is no other way to put marketing more beautifully. Given that in recent years, digital marketing has exploded onto the marketing scene, and its effects have been anything but small. Old-school companies have struggled to keep up with the ever-changing world of internet marketing while customers, leads, and clients have become more used to this new landscape.
Digital marketing has numerous definitions trust me I’ve gone through them, but most of them seem to be a bit too complicated, so to put it in simple words I would define it as
“The practice of promoting products or services with the help of digital devices and technology.”
This is as simple as it can get.
Now let’s dive into a little more detail here. When we say digital marketing it's more of an umbrella term that has several other parts to it.
Social Media Marketing
SEO stands for Search engine optimization. This is nothing but a set of rules to optimize the website so that it can be ranked better by search engines like Google, Bing, etc. This is one of the crucial things to keep in mind as search engines serve millions of users per day.
There are different stages involved in this process
1. Technical SEO: This is where we make things easy for the search engine crawler, usually this is a one-time thing where you get the setup done in the right way and you don’t have to deal with this again.
If this is not done it can negatively impact your rankings.
2. On-Page SEO: Since there is no human intervention present here we will have to let the crawler know about your page/website and what it’s all about.
Here you’ll be dealing with the website structure, SEO Keywords, title optimizations, internal links, and other structures that can help the crawler understand your website.
3. Off-Page SEO: This is nothing but building credibility for your website, this is done by backlinks(let me get back to this in a moment).
When a user searches for something, the search engine looks for the best possible result to satisfy the user’s requirement. Pages with high content relevance appear on the first page. Now one of the most important factors that are considered here is the number of incoming links or backlinks to your website.
In layman's terms, backlinks are indicators of trust, and depending on where they are coming from it can help greatly with your ranking position.
When SEO is done the right way it can help increase organic traffic to your website/blog. To know more about why SEO and its importance for a website you can go through this.
PPC or commonly known as Pay Per Click
To give a gist, PPC is all about buying visits to your site, rather than attempting to “earn” those visits organically. The most common type would be Google Ads or Bing Ads.
Unlike SEO which takes significant time to show results, PPC can be considered more of an instant way of marketing. Campaigns designed with the right keywords and strategy can not help with traffic, leads but sales also.
Social Media Marketing
Social media today has been at its peak with almost about 4.14 billion users who are actively scrolling through their mobile devices. The most common platforms being Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Pinterest.
There has never been a better time than now to get in touch with your customers directly and have a more stronger connection with your audience, thereby increasing customer loyalty. Not only this, you can easily get insights on what your audience is looking for, figure out product strategies and much more.
Hence, it's a best platform to get real with your audiences, improve your brands visibility and loyalty.
Most of us rely on Wikipedia for a quick answer let’s see what it has to say
“Content marketing is a form of marketing focused on creating, publishing, and distributing content for a targeted audience online.”
In simple words content marketing is about creating content which resonates and is relevant to your audience. This can be done in many forms eg: Blogs, E-Books or Infographics.
Well-done content helps create your brand which becomes more and more valuable with time. And the more you help your audience, the easier it becomes to gain reputation in your field.
With all the new technologies rising to attract new audiences some things never change like email marketing. It is estimated that there are about 3.9 billion active email users in 2019 and they have been growing.
Email marketing is the most cost-effective way of communicating with your audience. At its best, email marketing allows businesses to keep their customers informed and tailor their marketing messages to their audience.
